I have the strangest story to tell all of you. Mick and I received the most beautiful anniversary card yesterday, delivered by Michael and photo documented by Handley. I waited to open it with Mick, only to discover that there were two cards in the mix. One was in letter form from the Irene and John Schauber family with a trick one million dollar bill enclosed. Someone apparently thought that these two 75 year old’s could be fooled by anything. How untrue. I’m vigilant in all things scamming. Once I only sent the email asking for three credit cards, one credit card because they can’t fool me. So I knew that bill was fake when the card wasn’t signed by the John and Irene Schauber family. Did you pick up this error? See, I’m on top of all of this.

Now to the second and most unique anniversary card. There is more money in that card than all the Schauber kids ever received from all the tooth fairies that ever came to the River Road Schauber house. So I am sure it is a scam. Just amazing what counterfeiters can do these days. Rest assured I will scrutinize these bills carefully, and work with the FBI to get to the bottom of this missive. So if found to be legitimate, I can only say “Are you all crazy” No amount of money will fix a 53 year-old marriage. Was that your intent? I’ve lived long enough to know that can’t happen. Unless you are Jeff Bezos, or Elon Musk, you should know fixing is costly. So I thank you for you kind thoughts and generous gifts, but worry that you are so naive. Think about attending my class for the naive, and learn how to recognize scams that don’t work. I’m an expert.

So here is what will happen to the “too much gift” that someone put in the card in error. I will forever save it to celebrate our family by way of a “happy hour lunch” or party of some sort or an event we can all share in. I have to think about this though. So I thank you for your kindness and generosity and thoughtfulness; but this will be used to celebrate together with a glass of wine, or beer or scotch or gin or tea and yes, food, because seeing all of us do that together is my idea of a good way to celebrate a 53-year marriage “I do” contract that is still working.
